Cellar Maison – Wine Bar Feature: Our new section celebrates wonderful wine bars and restaurants where you
can enjoy a well curated wine list – with great food as well of course.
This edition is about the stunning 28°-50° Wine Workshop and Kitchen in London’s stylish Mayfair.

Named after the latitudes within which most of the world’s vineyards are located, the 28°-50° Wine Workshop and
Kitchen takes the traditional wine bar experience to a new level. 28°-50° Maddox Street, the third in the
collection of three sites, opened in the heart of Mayfair in 2013.
Owned by Michelin star Chef Patron Aggi Sverrisson of TEXTURE, 28°-50° provides a relaxed and informal dining
experience from a modern-European, seasonally focused menu. Guided by Group Operations Director Sid Clark,
previously General Manager of Gordon Ramsay’s Maze restaurant, and Group Head Sommelier Clement Robert MS,
Maddox Street has one of the most unique wine lists in London, featuring a range of over 30 traditional and
eclectic red and white wines available by the glass, carafe or bottle at exceptional prices. 28°-50°
Maddox Street also offers a specialist ‘collector’s list’ which showcases fine wines from private
collectors, offering guests a chance to discover more unusual and mature wines at their peak – some of which are
rarely seen in other restaurants.
Set over two floors, the kitchen is home to the groups first ever Champagne bar offering a choice of 25
varieties. Downstairs, guests are welcomed by a wine display and open kitchen, providing a perfect space for
private parties and group events. The workshop and kitchen’s stylish interior features reclaimed timber as a
reference to the wine barrels used in the ageing and fermentation process, whilst soft leather upholstery is
countered by industrial finishes on furniture and storage, with marble and bespoke tiles adding a final touch of
luxury to the space. Both levels have seating for 50 covers and there is additional outdoor space with terraces
to the front and rear for those who wish to ‘wine and dine’ al fresco during the warmer months.

The menu, created by Executive Chef Justin Leclair, together with Aggi Sverrisson, offers simple, seasonal modern
European food. Working only with the finest ingredients, freshly sourced both locally and from around Europe to
maximize on varying seasonality, the menu changes frequently, so Mayfair diners can look forward to new dishes
on each visit, all of which pair beautifully with interesting wines from the collection. Sample dishes include:
crab tortellini in a miso broth or grilled octopus with chorizo, new potatoes, piquillo peppers and radicchio to
start; slow cooked pork collar with charred calcot onions, mouli and red cabbage salad and coriander; 28 day
aged English Rib Eye steak; or seared scallops with pickled cauliflower, black pudding and samphire and sides of
truffled cauliflower cheese for mains; and pistachio crème brûée or dark chocolate cremeux with peanut and
toffee crunch and banana ice cream for pudding.
If you fancy something a bit lighter to accompany a glass of wine, the menu offers snacks and small bites,
including Maldon rock oysters, mini pulled pork burger, signature BBQ pork crackling, charcuterie boards and
sharing seafood platters – the perfect partner to a glass of Champagne.
Like its siblings, on Fetter Lane and Marylebone Lane, 28°-50° Maddox Street offers an exciting wine tasting
programme, workshops and themed dinners throughout the year in addition to a specialist wine cellar club on
Saturday’s from 12-5.30pm, where guests can taste some of the world’s finest and unique wines by the glass, such
as Chassagne Montrachet, Meursault, Bordeaux Cru Classe with prices less than £10.00 per glass.
